Bells And History in Frederick Md
Frederick County celebrated Bell & History Day at several museums and parks throughout the county on March 31st and April 1st. At this year's event we had the added bonus of the "Bells of Remembrance", mobile bells that commemorate those who fell in the 9-11 attacks. The bells were located at several places in Frederick County, and I got the opportunity to catch them at the Frederick Information Center before they drove them back to the warehouse in Wilmington DE
The bells are collected and curated by Br. David Schlatter, a Franciscan brother and Fire Station Chaplain. After attending a memorial service in New York one year after 9-11, Brother Schlatter, who prefers David, came up with the idea of mobile bells as a memorial. He has collected 18 bells, which are driven by firefighters who are happy to donate their time and pickup trucks to take the bells to various events throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.
